There is an open range in Southern Colorado kept un-fenced for them to roam. We drove up to the aptly named Wild Horse Mesa to look for them and were not disappointed. The first I saw were distant in the way that your eye can see their tiny white foal! But the camera on my phone only picked up specks. As we drove around the top of the Mesa though we turned a corner and there was a band of horses, living their lives amongst the sage brush about 20 feet away. Not at all concerned by us. Later we saw over 100 horses far below us spending the afternoon beside the reservoir. I wanted to do a drawing that would express the wonder my horse loving little girl self inside felt.
