The inspiration: My name, Sihaya comes from the science fiction novel Dune. My mother read it when she was pregnant with me and loved the name. She pronounces it Sigh-hay-au. The book gives the meaning as desert springtime. Unlike the meaning from the new movies which they changed to desert spring (water). Anyway when I moved to the Southwest I was very excited to experience my first desert springtime and find my first wild blooming cacti! Cactus are indigenous to the Americas and thus are a big part of my wild America collection of work.
