The inspiration: Growing up in Alaska we had wild, pale pink roses like these. They were called Susitna Roses. After a Native tale about a woman whose lover went away to battle and she laid down on the shore to wait for him. He never returned and the seasons and years covered her with the natural effects of time and she became a mountain. You can see Susitna Mountain across the water from Anchorage and it looks like a woman laying on her side. I was very thrilled to come across pale pink wild roses here in New Mexico. I wonder if they too have a native story I will someday hear.
